The wait is over for local fans of the popular ice cream brand, Blue Bell. The product hits the shelves locally Monday.
After a mass recall because of a listeria scare, the product was removed from shelves market-wide. In April 2015, 10 customers in Arizona, Kansas, Oklahoma and Texas were reported to the Centers for Disease Control with strains of listeria monocytogenes.
After several smaller recalls, the company issued a recall of all products because of the potential of contamination, according to the Food and Drug Administration.
According to Blue Bell’s website, the products are now safe for consumption.
In a statement on the website the company states, “All of the enhancements made in our facilities to procedures and equipment, and a ‘test and hold’ procedure where ice cream is not distributed until the production run is tested, are designed to ensure that the ice cream we distribute is safe for consumers to enjoy.”
