Ballinger man wins $1 million in scratch-off game

According to a press release from the Texas Lottery, Benedict Hoelscher of Ballinger recently won a $1 million prize in one of its scratch-off games called “$1,000,000 Instant Cashout.”

The winning ticket was purchased at Hoelscher Liquor store in Rowena for $20. The store is therefore eligible for a $10,000 retailer bonus.

In the game, Hoelscher claimed the sixth of six prizes, worth $1 million. Overall odds of winning any prize in the game are one in 3.05, including break-even prizes according to the release.

“My son was visiting from Lubbock and when I got home I walked in and asked my wife and son if I looked any different, if I looked like a millionaire,” Hoelscher said. “I gave my wife the ticket and she couldn’t believe it.”

Hoelscher said he plans to use the prize money to help his son and grandson.

He also said he has been planning on selling the store and possibly travel.
