ASU’s Perez advances to 400-meter finals at NCAA track & field championships

Angelo State University’s track and field team member Luis Perez advanced to the final of the 400-meters on the first day of the NCAA Division II Outdoor Track & Field Championships at the IMG Academy in Bradenton, Florida.

“It was not one of our better days,” Angelo State head track & field coach James Reid said in a press release from ASU’s athletic department. “The bright spot was Luis making the finals with the third fastest time and personal best in the 400-meters. We had some kids struggle today. We aren’t in terrible shapes in the multis but we have some work to do tomorrow to get on the award stand. It was disappointed not getting anybody else in the finals but we will come back tomorrow and be ready to compete.”

Perez, a senior at ASU, had the fastest time (46.07) in the preliminaries at the championships. He also nabbed the third fastest time in his event in the school’s history. He

He’ll compete in the 400-meter finals Saturday evening.
