ASU’s Bryce Zak signs with Tampa Bay Rays

Angelo State University Rams baseball pitcher Bryce Zak has signed with Major League Baseball’s Tampa Bay Rays. According to ASU’s athletics department, Zak, a graduate student at ASU, signed Tuesday morning.

Zak played a major role in earning the Rams a second consecutive and third overall trip to the NCAA DII College World Series, the release said.

With a 9-3 overall record and a 2.45 ERA, Zak set a Lone Star Conference record and an Angelo State record.

He accumulated 149 strikeouts in 2016, and claimed the No. 1 all-time spot in ASU history for single season strikeouts.

Zak’s 272 career strikeouts broke the all-time Lone Star Conference record by 14. He was second on the team with 110.1 innings pitched and held the opposition to .200 average at the dish.
