ASU hosting JROTC drill meet Saturday

Angelo State University’s Air Force ROTC Detachment 847 is hosting the annual Junior ROTC (JROTC) Drill Meet for Texas high school students Saturday, April 9, at the Junell Center/Stephens Arena, 2235 S. Jackson St.

 

Events will run from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. and are free and open to the public. JROTC cadets from more than 23 Texas high schools will compete for awards and trophies in various events.

Judges for the contests will be active duty members of the U.S. Marine Corps, Air Force and Army. Events at the meet will include:

  • Unarmed inspection
  • Unarmed regulation
  • Unarmed exhibition
  • Armed inspection
  • Armed regulation
  • Armed exhibition
  • Color Guard competition
  • Individual drill
  • Tandem drill
  • Knockout drill
  • Warrior Challenge
  • Saber Team drill

 

Additionally, the United States Air Force Band of the West’s Top Flight ensemble will perform a free live concert during the lunch hour and 5:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. after the awards presentation. Other special programs and presentations will be made by U.S. military recruiters, the Civil Air Patrol and Goodfellow and Dyess Air Force bases, including flight simulators, rocket demonstrations, remotely piloted vehicles and military working dogs.
