After winning the first round against Texas A&M-Commerce in first round, the Angelo State softball team lost 6-5 in nine innings to No. 1 West Texas A&M in the Lone Star Conference Semifinals Friday.
The Rambelles scored nine runs on 13 hits in the two games and with a 36-21 score they are now awaiting the NCAA Division II Selection Show which will be held at 9 a.m. Monday.
According to Angelo State University’s press release, Angelo State head softball coach Travis Scott said “We played good softball today. Brandy Marlett threw another great game and we got some big hits especially Brooke’s triple. It was exciting to see that because she busts her tail every day. Morgan Hill threw really well against WT and we did what we needed to do and had our chances and it was just a typical WT-ASU game this time of year.”
According to Scott the Rambelles know they can compete with the No. 1 West Texas A&M team, but they just missed a few chances.
“I am very happy with where we are at and how we are playing,” he said.
In the most recent NCAA Division II South Central Regional poll Angelo State’s softball team was ranked No. 6., and the top eight teams will advance to one of two NCAA South Central Regional tournaments, according to the release.
