Alamo Drafthouse is inviting Jedi of all ages to join them at select locations across the state for a special lightsaber vigil in memory of actress Carrie Fisher. Fisher, who portrayed Princess Leia in the “Star Wars” franchise, died Tuesday at the age of 60.
Alamo Drafthouses in New Braunfels, Stone Oak, Park North, Westlakes and Laredo will open the vigils at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday. Organizers are encouraging attendees to dress as their favorite “STAR WARS” characters; to bring along as many lightsabers as they own; and to invite fellow Wookiees, Bounty Hunters, Ewoks and Stormtroopers.
There will be free memorial screenings of “The Blues Brothers” to honor Fisher. Donations will be accepted before and after the show to DBSA San Antonio, a non-profit support group for people with mood disorders, such as bipolar disorder and depression. Fisher worked to remove the stigma surrounding mental illness. She spoke publicly about her own struggle with depression and bipolar disorder.
We will be having a lightsaber memorial in honor of the wonderful Carrie Fisher on Wednesday 12/28.
