Abilene Police arrest two for the murder of man found in roadway near I-20

The Abilene Police Department issued a brief statement Tuesday morning saying two arrests have been made in the death of Donald Perkins, who was found lying in a roadway Sunday near Interstate 20.

According to the statement from APD, during the early morning hours of June 28, detectives with the Abilene Police Department arrested Michael Shawn Gootee and Kimberly Dawn Mansell for the murder of Donald Perkins.

At approximately 9 p.m. Sunday, police received a call from a citizen of an injured subject lying in the roadway on Arnold Boulevard near Interstate 20. The caller stated that the victim had been shot. When police arrived on scene, Perkins was lying on the roadway dead.

Police immediately secured the scene and began a homicide investigation.

A press conference will be held at the Law Enforcement Center at 11 a.m. Tuesday, according to the statement.
