Abilene girl’s parents murdered months apart

The 11-year-old Abilene girl who called 911 after her mother was shot and killed in north Abilene in May 2016 made the same call Wednesday, but for her father.

As reported by Big Country Homepage, the girl, now 12 years old, called 911 Wednesday night after her father, Juan Delacruz, was shot on the 100 block of Plaza Street.

Delacruz earned custody of the girl after her mother, Sona Olivia Trucks, was murdered  just one day before the girl’s 12th birthday.

Trucks’ boyfriend, 45 -year-old Manuel Talavera, was charged with the crime.

There is no indication that the two shootings are related, but the recent incident remains under investigation.

Police are still looking for the man who shot Delacruz. Anyone with information regarding the shooting should contact police.
