DPS traffic stop leads to seizure of 10 lbs of cocaine

A Texas Department of Public Safety Trooper seized approximately ten pounds of cocaine, valued at over $614,000, during an April 4 traffic stop on US 59 near Burke.

Preliminary information indicates around 9:30 p.m. a DPS Trooper stopped a 2004 BMW passenger car for a traffic violation. During the traffic stop the driver exhibited indicators of criminal activity.

A DPS K-9 Unit responded to the scene and positively alerted on the BMW. A subsequent search of the vehicle led to the discovery of the cocaine in a false compartment under the front passenger seat.

The driver was identified as 25-year-old Rodolfo Manjarrez-Hernandez from Houston. He was traveling from Houston to Tennessee. Hernandez was arrested and placed in the Angelina County Jail for felony possession of a controlled substance and unlawful use of a criminal instrument.

This is an ongoing criminal investigation.
