24-year old San Marcos man arrested by New Braunfels PD for sexual assault of a child

A 24-year old San Marcos man was arrested by the New Braunfels Police Department Tuesday and charged with the sexual assault of a 14-year old female.

A report was made to police Feb. 18, 2016,  by the victim, who said she met the man online and had engaged in sexual intercourse with him. Chase Daniel Laird was identified by New Braunfels PD detectives as the suspect.

According to a release from the New Braunfels PD, a warrant was issued for Laird’s arrest Tuesday and he was apprehended without incident at his residence. He was booked into the Comal County Jail and charged with sexual assault of a child. His bond was set at $10,000. At the time of the release from the police department, Laird remained in the jail.

Texas Penal Code lists sexual assault of a child younger than 17 years old to be a second degree felony, punishable by two to 20 years in prison and a fine of up to $10,000, if convicted of the offense.
